Urgent Appeal

ICBUW needs your help if our work is to continue.

Last week, the Norwegian government announced that it will no longer fund ICBUW’s research and advocacy on DU weapons. We are now facing a funding crisis that could result in us having to close the secretariat and make the staff redundant.

Urgent appeal 2015

This is the most serious funding crisis we have ever faced.

Staff and management have met to discuss our options and how to sustain our work over the next three months and, hopefully beyond. We have brought forward plans for a new funding strategy but need time to ensure it that can be implemented. We have historically directed as much money as possible to our advocacy work and, as such, we operate with minimal reserves. The next three months will therefore be crucial for us. By keeping our operating costs to a minimum we believe we can get through this period but to do so we need your help.

It is extremely rare for us to solicit direct donations from members and supporters for the work of the secretariat but in this instance we believe it is justified. Your donation will help ensure that we can keep the office open while we implement our new funding strategy.

We remain deeply indebted to the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their support over the last five years. It has provided the stability necessary for us to develop in expertise and professionalism and helped make 2014 our most successful on record. It is imperative that we continue our work to protect civilians and the environment upon which they depend from DU and all toxic remnants of war. From the United Nations to the European Parliament and national legislatures, we have made considerable progress in stigmatising DU and promoting accountability for harm but much remains to be done.

Please help us get through this difficult period with a donation. See below for the four ways you can donate.

Thank you, on behalf of the staff and Steering Committee. Doug Weir (Coordinator).
