International Uranium Film Festival Berlin 2018

From the 9th to the 14th of October, the Uranium Film Festival will be broadcasting for the seventh time atomic films and filmmakers to the cinema of Kulturbrauerei Prenzlauer Berg and the Zeiss-Großplanetarium.

The International Uranium Film Festival is the world's only festival dedicated to radioactivity and nuclear power. Again, films from all over the world are represented this year.

There is also an accompanying program this year. Including various exhibitions, lectures and discussion events, to which ICBUW warmly welcomes.

" 'Best Berlin Uranium Film Festival of all time' - that was my summary for 2017. I was under the impression of the tremendously huge, unique expertise that was gathered in the cinema during the discussion at the final event. Added to this was the spirit of optimism, combined with the adoption of the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty and the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to ICAN.

This mood, this attitude should be preserved in the face of an almost unlimited arms race. This concerns nuclear weapons as well as uranium weapons: When it comes to new aircraft and tanks, the question of a uranium weapon equipment also plays a role time and again. On the other hand, there are clear tendencies to replace this - discredited - type of weapon.

ICBUW, the peace movement and events such as the IUFF have their share in this. We also support the effort to help the victims of DU bombing by NATO in Serbia. A related legal and political project continues to take shape. In addition, Europe will be a focal point of this year's ICBUW special events. They take place - almost simultaneously - with the discussion of the topic of uranium weapons in the First Committee of the UN General Assembly in New York.

That is precisely why the Uranium Film Festival is and remains of utmost importance . In a nutshell, there is much to do and no reason to give up. Now less than ever!..."

- Prof. Manfred Mohr, ICBUW-spokesperson Germany and international lawyer
