  • South Korean Journalist and Peace Activist Jailed

    Lee Si-woo, a photojournalist and peace campaigner, was arrested on 23 April on charges under the vaguely worded South Korean National Security Law (NSL). The charges relate to information he reported as a freelance journalist. Amnesty International and ICBUW believe he is a prisoner of conscience, detained solely for exercising his right to freedom of expression.

    The Lima Conference on Cluster Munitions held in Peru at the end of May concluded with strong and widespread support for a new treaty. Twenty-eight new countries joined the 46 states that launched a new process in Oslo in February this year to conclude a treaty by 2008.
