Report from the Day of Action event in Germany
Campaigners gathered on a cold Monday evening to commemorate the International Day of Action on Uranium Weapons which coincides with the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict.
The square by the Brandenburg Gate is one of the major attractions in Berlin. It is surrounded by the embassies of the DU-using countries, the USA and UK and by the French embassy. It typically draws a large crowd and visitors were made aware of these inhumane weapons that have now been used for more than two decades.
The gathering was initiated by newly acquired supporters for the cause and backed by ICBUW Germany. It also served as an opportunity to advertise upcoming events, such as a showing of the DU-exhibition “DUst and Death” by Handicap International in Berlin.
The exhibition will be opened on Friday the 5th of January 2012 in the Anti-War Café in Berlin-Mitte close to Alexanderplatz. Several well-known individuals of the German Anti-DU campaign will speak at the event.
