DoD Denies Uranium Use in Guided Bombs and Cruise Missiles
Dear DU activists and journalists,
Below is the text of a letter I received Sept. 21 2004 via U.S. Senator Jon Kyl. As far as I know, this is the most unequivocal statement from the Pentagon to date about uranium use in guided bombs and cruise missiles, directly refuting the suggestions of Dai Williams, the claims made by UMRC spokespeople and others, including Project Censored.

My specific question was:
Have any of the laser or satellite-guided bombs, guided missiles, or Tomahawk or air-launched cruise missiles, used in Iraq since March 19, 2003, incorporated any components manufactured from depleted uranium or an alloy of any type of uranium?

Dear Senator Kyl,
This is in response to your letter to Assistant Secretary Moore regarding a constituent?s question on the use of depleted uranium i missiles and bombs in Iraq.
Our review of the constituent?s specific question regarding the use in certain munitions in recent operations confirms that none of the guided bombs or cruise missiles that the U.S. used in Iraq and Afghanistan contained uranium of any type.
We appreciate your constituent?s concern for the health and well being of our military personnel an those engaged in reconstruction efforts. Thank you for the opportunity to provide a response.
Sincerely,
s/
